After he see's John and takes him back with him, Bernard changes. It's like he becomes part of the society that was so different from his charactor before and now he is acting like everyone else in this crazy society. The society comsumes Bernard as it did with the others and made him into a member. People in this society are encouraged to happy every second of everyday even if that means they take drugs to help them to become happy. Soma is mentioned frequently throughout the book and its used by it seems by everyone in the society. Many people like Linda used this drug often to be happy but sometimes too much. Linda went into a coma because of her unhappiness and the drugs just weren't working. She ended up dying later on in the book. Just like Linda the society has become blind to its surroundings and trying to amend it with all the wrong things in hope of making things better but in the end it would eventually die out. Now that John has came back with Bernard he has become some what of a sideshow attraction. People call him the savage even though he seems to be the most civilized person in this society. Bernard even sets up a party just so people could come see "the savage", but John doesn't come out of his room. Can't say that I don't blame him. It's like don't judge a book by its cover John may come from a native place but it don't mean it's all he is. While on the reservation Bernard finds that there is a person that lives with the native people who was once part of their society and had a child who was born and not made. The child was a boy named John who's only reading material was Shakespeare's plays. He only knows the native society and the way of Shakespeare. We later find out that John's father is actually the DHC. Bernard want to take John back to the city to expose the DHC seeing that having a child that was born into society was frowned upon greatly. This causes the DHC to resign his postion and Bernard to not have to go to Iceland. This society seems to have lost its individuality and its morals of what is right. This society is almost like what the erudites did to the dauntless toward the end of the movie divergent. They are being controlled by one person that is formed my many people of a group. They are forced from a very young age to be afraid of certain things and be happy constantly and to do anything to become happy. This society is lost and the people inside it don't even know it yet. The main character in the book Brave New World Bernard feels separate from the rest of the society. He feels that he is the only one who has these emotions, but he tries his best to hide them from the others. Despite his efforts, Bernard was found out of his feelings and was later banished to Iceland. While in New Mexico he finds that the DHC has a son named John who feels the same way as he does and he doesn't feel so alone. The D.H.C leads the group of new students through the factories of the genetically engineered people. They go through each step of the process of each person becoming part of their social classes of gamma, delta, alpha, beta, and epsilon. Certain people go through different stages to achieve the happiness that society pushes to do so. Each class has different roles in the society and are engineered to be happy with the way they are. |
